Pregnancy

This is not your fault and you are not alone

Much like any other chronic illness or debilitating syndrome, it is purely by chance that you have found yourself in this situation. It is not yet known what causes HG, but research is currently taking place and we hope there will be answers soon. What can be said with certainty is that you are suffering from a common problem that affects all personalities and ethnic backgrounds and in all types of environments. Basically, this is not your fault.

Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy (NVP) is an incredibly awful experience and should not be ignored by family, friends or professionals. Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG), the most serious form of NVP, is characterised by symptoms so severe that the sufferer becomes dehydrated, loses weight, and may have to be admitted to hospital. When NVP begins to affect your quality of life treatment must be considered.

This section contains information that may help you to manage your symptoms. The information in this section should not be used as a substitute for medical advice and is not provided on behalf of a medical practitioner. If you are experiencing symptoms of either NVP or HG, it is important to contact a general practitioner (GP) as soon as possible. In the event of any emergency, contacting your GP and/or going to a hospital emergency department is important. Hyperemesis Australia will not be held responsible for any actions that you do or do not take based on this information.
